Captain James Cook

James Cook was born in 7 November 1728 .

He was a famous ocean navigator and he also mapped places.

In 1746 James Cook worked on a ship. He discovered that he loved being a sailor.

In 1755 he joined the navy and he learnt how to navigate.

He was sent on a voyage to the southern continent when he found New Zealand.

His first time in  New Zealand was a disaster.

Captain Cook thought that he was being attacked so he shot one of their chiefs.

Captain Cook learnt his lesson and he made sure his visits to New Zealand after that were friendly.

He came to New Zealand three more times in 1769-70, 1773 and 1777.

In the end Captain Cook sailed back to Hawaii, after discovering it a few years earlier.  He had been
friends with the Hawaiian people but then he tried to take one of their chiefs.  The Hawaiian people
attacked and killed Captain Cook, and cooked him.

Captain Cook did some important things such as discovering places and drawing maps of those places.  
I think he did some bad stuff too, such as

trying to take people and killing people.
